In one of the fifty most beautiful villages in France, where we find a large Romanesque church, the Chateau of Saint Saturnin, a fief of the "La Tour d'Auvergne family", belonged to Queens Catherine de Médicis and Marguerite de Valois, then to King Louis XIII.
This large fortress is a perfect example of a great medieval chateau which is typicaly of military architecture in the Middle Ages: a triple surrounding wall, ramparts, a tower with battlements and machicolation.
Two wings were added in the XIVth and XVth centuries to either side of the XIIIth century main buildings.
One can visit the keep, the rampart-walk, the large rooms and the french-style gardens.
